Alumni News & Updates Congratulations to the graduating class of 2015! This past year, I was honored to be able to share my classroom with students who would go on to have successful and rewarding professional careers. It was a great experience, one that I will never forget. Here’s what transpired during my first year in the classroom:

In the first week of this semester, our students participated in a “practical” learning experience.

At the end of the first week of this course, the students were given the opportunity to practice speaking and writing in English. We were also given the option to take practice exams or take a written review.

During their first days of school, they were given a basic set of tools and taught how to use them.

This meant they were given paper and pen, not laptops. It also meant they were expected to clean up after themselves, write email correspondence, and carry on with their activities without assistance.

The next day, they would be tested on their ability to learn and write English.

This exercise involved writing questions and then taking the correct number of correct answers and then giving a written test to determine their proficiency.

This was a group project where we discussed different words, definitions, and phrases that we might not have otherwise encountered. As we discussed words and definitions, the students were given an opportunity to explain how they meant and then used those words in their daily lives.

This was a great way to end the year. We had a team building activity, an innovation session, and the opportunity to make new friends. I also had the opportunity to sit in on a few of the office activities, which were very helpful during my first year in the office.

Final Words: What did I learn during my first year in Principles?

These experiences were invaluable in helping me learn how to approach every moment in life with the greatest possible consideration for everyone I meet. I gained a better understanding of how others think and feel, of how to approach life with an open heart, and I will greatly cherish these experiences as a constant reminder of how important it is to have the right person in your life.

In the first week of this semester, our students participated in a “practical” learning experience.

I was so glad to meet students like Akon and Cody who were ready to go forward with their careers and lead meaningful lives. With the opportunity to learn from them, I also learned how to take proper care of myself during my first year as a teacher. I had a great time going to the doctor’s office or seeing a doctor, and he or she was always so kind and helpful.
